Google is inviting Gmail users to test out 13 new features it's considering adding to the Webmail service. Available via the 'labs' function in Gmail's settings, the services include a quick-link tool that allows users to bookmark specific messages, the ability to assign mouse gestures to various actions, and customizable keyboard shortcuts. The most popular features will then become standard within Gmail.

NEW CRYPTO VIRUS A LOOMING THREAT
The emergence of a variant on a virus that encrypts the victim's data with a strong 1,024-bit algorithm so the victim can't unscramble it without paying a ransom has begun to spread, potentially posing a major threat, according to the antimalware firm which discovered it.Kaspersky Lab says the new variant of the Windows-based encryptor virus Gpcode, which hasn't been spotted for about 1 ½ years, is more of a threat than it was in the past.

APPLE BRINGS IPHONE 3G TO MUCH FANFARE INCLUDING INDIA
With anticipation at a fever pitch, Apple unveiled the iPhone 3G to an appreciative global audience. The new iPhone, sporting a thinner and sleeker look, will support faster 3G broadband wireless networks and come with built-in GPS capabilities. The iPhone 3G has a 3.5-inch screen and a higher battery life of up to five hours talk time and stand-by time of 300 hours. Apple has cut the price of the iPhone by half. Apple also announced that iPhone 3G is being brought to customers in India later this year through Bharti Airtel.
